Monsoon cheer and firm global cues make Sensex soar by 150 points

Sensex jumped over 150 points and moved above 27,000 on Wednesday for the first time since October 29, 2015.  The S&P BSE Sensex was trading at 26,976 up 132 points, while NSE Nifty was trading at 8,253 up 34 points said a report in IndiaInfoline. Firm global cues and strong prediction of monsoon this year helped buoy the rally.

 

The BSE Mid-cap Index was trading up 0.60% at 11,474, whereas BSE Small-cap Index was trading up 0.56% at 11,258. Axis Bank, Coal India, Hero MotoCorp, Tata Steel, Bajaj-Auto and M&M are among the gainers, whereas Bharti Airtel, Sun Pharma, Dr Reddy's and Asian Paints lost some sheen on the BSE.



Some buying activity was seen in metal, auto, banking, power and capital goods sectors, while telecom and pharma showed weakness on BSE.Out of the 1,700 stocks traded on the NSE, 385 declined, 965 advanced and 420 remained unchanged on Friday.A total of 25 stocks registered a fresh 52-week high in trades today, while 12 stocks touched a new 52-week low on the NSE.


 

The Indian rupee opened higher by 8 paise at 67.23/$ against the US Dollar on Friday as against the previous close of 67.29/$. Macro data flow has been positive and the Indian economy could more than double to $5 trillion in a "matter of few years" said FM Arun Jaitley. Reforms could propel India to becoming a more developed economy besides having retaining the tag of being the fastest growing large economy, Jaitley stated.
