NGT again wants ban on 10-year old diesel vehicles in Delhi

NGT demands diesel vehicles ban

The National Green Tribunal has again suggested that all diesel cars more than 10 years old and petrol cars more than 15 years old should be impounded in Delhi-NCR.
This comes just days after apex court reserved its order on a petition by automaker against the 7-month old ban on diesel vehicles above 2000cc.

The automakers in their petition had asked for big diesel vehicles to be allowed again on payment of one percent of ex-showroom price as green cess. The recent call by NGT for impounding of old diesel and petrol cars, if implemented, is expected to in-turn help increase the sales of automakers who have till now bore the brunt on the diesel ban.

NGT also said that it will issue direction for de-registration of vehicles older than 10 years. The tribunal asked the Delhi government to submit an action report on ban on plying of diesel vehicles over 10 years old and petrol cars aged more 15.
