2.5 lakh new households will be get piped natural gas in Hyderabad and the Krishna Godavri basin, the nation's largest gas reservoir will garner 1 lakh crore worth of new investments said oil minister Dharmendra Pradhan.

"Bhagyanagar Gas Limited, a joint venture of GAIL and HPCL Ltd, will connect one lakh new households in Hyderabad to PNG within the next two years and more than 2.5 lakh by 2021," he said.

"Only 1,140 households have been linked with PNG in Hyderabad. Though there is a primary network,  due to lack of monitoring and strategy it could not penetrate. Now I am pledging my commitment," Pradhan told reporters in Hyderabad.

"I have taken review and found the anomalies. I have a new business plan for Bhagyanagar Gas. Within next two years, one lakh new households will be connected through PNG," he said.

The minister said all preparatory work has been completed and tenders have been invited for the pipeline-laying process.

He said there will be more CNG connections for transportation sector and added that more CNG facilities will be put up in Hyderabad.

"Along with investments from ONGC, GSPC and RIL, from this financial year to the next 5-7 financial years, I am visualising new investment of Rs 1 lakh crore in the Krishna-Godavari Basin, creating new employment and setting up downstream industry," Pradhan told reporters here.

"India's east coast, particularly Krishna-Godavari Basin has rich hydrocarbon deposits. Though there is a difference when compared to Mumbai High, where oil and gas is available at a depth of 100 to 200 meters whereas in east coast, the same is available at a depth of 2,000 to 3,000 meters," he pointed out.

And hence, there is lot of differentiation over production costs and technology between Mumbai and the east coast, he said.
