In an age of instant and social-media gratification, vanity knows no bounds. To get the perfect (and attention-seeking) shot, this model literally threw caution to the wind when she attempted this death-defying pose. Clearly, some people will go to any lenghths

23-year-old Russian model Viktoria Odintsova decided to casually hang herself off a ledge in Dubai, without any safety harness, and was only secured by hanging onto a friend’s arm.

Why?  All in pursuit of an Instagram shot for her 3 million odd followers.

‘I still cannot believe that I did it. Every time I watch this video, my palms get sweaty,’ she told the Metro. The 73-storey Cayan Tower in Dubai was once the tallest high-rise building in 2013. Now, the record lies with the Shangai Tower.

Her stunt received over a million views,  but was widely criticized.

Now, the Dubai police have launched an investigation into for the lack of prior permits required for this shoot of this nature. According to GulfNews, “Major-General Khalil Ebrahim Al Mansouri, Assistant to the Dubai Police Chief for Criminal Investigation Affairs, said individuals who perform stunts on top of skyscrapers could face prosecution for endangering other people’s lives, given they could fall onto a pedestrian below. We are currently investigating the case. We have previously warned people to not perform such acts. They don’t realise that it could cost them their life if something goes wrong,” Al Mansouri said.

Currently, the model is in Maldives, but has been summoned to “to sign a pledge not to put her life in danger again,” as reported by Reuters
