These lights were made from washing machine drums

There’s a saying that goes, when life hands you lemons, make lemonades. Similarly, junk metal and other scraps in the hands of creative and skilful artisans can make something wonderful and beautiful.
 

Take the case of these old washing machines drums that were turned into lamps.
 

During the St John of God Street during the festival of San Pedro in 2016, 133 drums were turned into lamps with the help of different coloured lights that illuminated the street.
 

According to their Facebook page, “ The project is developed by Metaphora Theatre - Association of Friends of the Arts, an NGO based in Câmara de Lobos Wood and has the support of the City Council. This design has a meaning not only visual but also ecological and seeks to raise awareness of the sustainable use of resources, promoting the reuse of materials.
