Royal Enfield unveils 650cc Parallel Twin Engine for India before EICMA

Royal Enfield fans are in for some good news. RE is revving up its engines and bringing out more powerful versions.

The 2017 EICMA motorcycle which is running Milan, Italy will see the bike manufacturer put up some impressive performance. At the  EICMA one comes to know all about the next year in motorcycling. If there’s a new trend in bike design, it shows up there first.

Royal Enfield, according to Overdrive is ready to launch an engine which will be found in their flagship vehicles set to hit the Indian shores in April 2018. The Chennai-based company has unveiled its new 648cc twin parallel engine that could power its future bikes. Two of which are expected to launch in a couple of days at the Milan Motorcycle Show.

Reports peg RE will be launching two different bike styles using the same engine - one, with a raised street-style handle bar and the other being mostly a café racer. The parallel-twin motorcycle is based on the company’s Café Racer 535cc bike called the Continental GT. The company is attempting to lure in newer buyers with modern elements and yet keep its loyalists happy as well.

While there is no competition for the Continental GT 750 in its segment, the Classic 750 will compete against the Triumph Bonneville Street Twin and the Harley Davidson Street 750.

HERE'S A SNEAK-PEEK:

The design of the new engine takes visual cues from the 1948 500 Twin, which was in circulation for just 10 years. The engine is estimated to have a cruising range of 120-135 kmph. The engine comes mated with a six-speed gearbox that also gets slip-assist clutch to reduce the lever effort. The 648cc engine will make 47PS of peak power at 7,100rpm and 52nm torque at 4000rpm.

The company officials claims that this engine will miss on Royal Enfield's traditional thump but will introduce a new 'rumble' for the users.

One of them is the 750 Interceptor Twin as confirmed by Siddhartha Lal, CEO of Royal Enfield. This will be the company’s first 750cc bike. The engine reveal was done at Royal Enfield's UK Technical Center at Bruntingthorpe, near Leicester in UK. The company has confirmed that these bikes will be produced on mass scale in 2018.
