Microwaves are a boon and are an absolute necessity in today's fast-paced life. This most convenient appliance is used to cook and reheat food rapidly. It is often used as a simple alternative to conventional ovens. But, it is not safe to use the microwave to reheat any leftover in your fridge. You should never reheat these food items in a microwave, instead reheat them in ovens for the taste much better the second time around.

1. Casseroles

Dishes prepared in casseroles taste much better when baked in a conventional oven. Sprinkle some water over the dish and cover it tightly with a foil. Bake it at 325 degrees F in a conventional oven until the dish is heated through.

2. Fried Chicken

Place leftover pieces of  fried chicken in a pan and cover with a foil. Place it in a conventional oven at 375 degrees F for about 10 minutes. This lends a crispy and crunchy texture to the fried chicken, unlike in a microwave where the skin remains soggy.

3. Pizza

Reheat pizza in the conventional oven at 375 degrees F until the cheese melts well and crust becomes crisp. You can also reheat pizza slices on the stove. Place slices in a skillet on medium heat and tent it with aluminum foil.  Remove when the pizza once it's done - courtesy cheese melt and pizza crust.

4. Pasta

If you have not added sauce to the pasta, the simply reheat it in a pot of boiling water for about a minute or two. Be careful while reheating the sauce as too much heat will make the dish oily. Place it in a saucepan and add some olive or extra virgin oil or cream, and heat on medium or low heat. Don't forget to stir frequently. You can also add some water to make it thin and adjust seasoning if needed.

5. French fries

It is very difficult to reheat french fries without changing its texture and taste. An easy method is to heat some oil in a nonstick pan and add the fries just when the oil starts to shimmer. Fry until the fries are real crisp and brown. Remove fries and drain oil using a paper towel.
