Superstitions, the dictionary defines this word as a belief or a notion that is not founded on logic or science. And in India, there are plenty of superstitions that govern every area of life. There many old wives’ tales which state that you will have bad luck if you see a black cat. Another one says that you will look good if you cut your hair on Tuesdays.

To be sure, there is little or no truth to these superstitions. And there is no way to prove that bad or good things will happen if you follow them. So here’s our interpretation of what will happen logically when you follow, don’t follow, see or don’t see these superstitions. 

 

Black cat crossing the road is believed to be a bad omen but have you ever thought that maybe, just like how you are crossing the road to reach elsewhere, so is the cat. It's as simple as that. 

 

Getting a hair cut on Tuesday is considered inauspicious. While the reason behind it is unknown, you will feel fabulous from Wednesday courtesy of a new haircut. Unless your hairstylist got it all wrong. 

 

If you open your umbrella inside the house is said to bring the house bad luck but it really just makes you well prepared for the monsoons. Well done!

 

Hanging a lemon and seven chillies is considered to be ritual that drives away evil. But chances are that it might not do its job and fall on your head soon or turn into a toy for your pets at home.

 

If you have sugar before starting something new or special, it is believed that it will go well. But it will also increase your chances of visiting the doctor soon.

 

 

A menstruating woman entering  a temple is considered to be 'unholy' but what it actually means is that she is there for the same reason that anyone else is. Were you expecting another reason? 

 

Walking under a ladder is believed to be bad luck as the ladder leaning on a wall forms a triangle, and breaking this triangle is 'bad.' But it was first formed because the thief either forgot to clean his trail or he's still on the job. 

 

If you break a mirror, it is said to bring you 7 years of bad luck. It is believed that mirrors not only hold your reflection but also bits of your soul. It is also a clear sign that you're not having a very good day and you just made it worse because you're going to have to clean up that mess.

 

 

If you spill salt, it is said to be attract evil. However throwing a pinch of salt behind you could save you from this but it could also cause an eye allergy for someone standing behind you. 

 

If someone calls you from the back, it is believed that you may meet with an accident or go through something horrible but it's also a possibility that you dropped something on the floor, being the clumsy person you are.

 

If you sneeze before you begin something auspicious, it is a sign that your day may not go well which could be true because you would have to see a doctor soon.

 

If you cut your nails after its dark outside, it is considered as a bad omen for the house but in all honesty it is only because it will be a pain to find all the nails in the dark. 

 

It is believed that if you find lost money, it could bring you good luck. Of course, nobody ever complained of too much money. But ever wonder what the person who lost that money would be thinking?
