Muy Caliente: Here's why you should include Cuba in your travel bucket list

 

Rich in history, architecture and culture, there’s more to Cuba than its carnivals and cigars, and of course, Fidel Castro.

 

Ever since US has lifted its embargo, Cuba’s tourism shot up by 18 %. Cuba as a destination was never really seen as a go-to destination earlier, but that’s all in the past, as it is now one of the most exotic destinations to tick off from one’s bucket list.

 

One doesn’t have to restrict themselves to its capital city alone. There are many sights that Cuba has to offer.  Here's some of them.

 

 

Beach Bums, Ahoy:  

 

 

 
White sandy beaches, palm-fringed shores and azure waters are what you’re looking for, then Cuba is a beach lovers’ personal paradise.   From the most popular like Varedero and Playa Ancon to one of the most underrated Cuban beaches like Punta Frances,  which, fun fact, inspired the famous ‘Treasure Island’ by RL Stevenson to Cayo Levisa, which has still retained its natural charm. East, west, south or north, one can indulge in a number of activities from sun-kissed skins to embracing underwater flora and fauna.

 

Architecture Fiend:

 

 

Want a slice of sepia-tinted memories of yore? You’re in the right place then. Cuba is home to some eclectic architecture of neo-classicisms and Spanish Baroque influences that is reflected in their buildings. For example, take a stroll down Old Havana, its colourful buildings, gorgeous and intricate balconies with its grand villas is a sight to behold.  Old Havana was constructed around four main plazas viz.  Plaza de la Catedral, Plaza de Armas, Plaza Vieja, and Plaza de San Francisco de Asis; each of these has its own unique charm. 3. Aint no mountain high enough:
 

Sounding like a character from the Fast and Furious franchise, but not lies Cuba’s highest peak -  the  Pico Turquino.  Located at Turquino National Park, it used to be once the strong hold of Che Guevara. Lush verdant greenery, rambling streams and some revolutionary hiding spots make the hike worth a visit. Guided tours are available.
  
 

 

4. Other things:

 

 

Music and dance are prominent cultural pillars everyday Cuban life. Take a salsa class, eat at the famed La Guardia where a famous Cuban period piece was filmed in 1994 called Strawberry and Chocolate.
