5 ways to get over a break-up

how to get over a break up

As much as we all like to believe in happily ever after, sometimes it doesn’t work out. Celebs, too, are not immune to it, either. For example, take this year alone,  a lot of celebrities broke up including Katrina and Ranbir Kapoor, Farhan and Adhuna among others.

Here are some tips helping one overcome the pain of a break-up. Of course, be patient, only it takes some time to heal the wounds. But follow these tips to keep yourself alive and accept the truth.

1.  Keep away from his / her social accounts:

While you once were a part of their social accounts, you now need to stop looking into their Facebook, Twitter, and Instagram feeds. Trying to find out what is happening in their life is not going to make you feel any better. So after the break-up, do not turn an investigative agent (while it’s tempting to do so). Instead, concentrate and distract yourself with something else, and go on your life.

2. Do not make alcohol your all-time friend:

Do not be overly dependent on alcohol to numb the pain. Chances are you will end up drunk dialling your ex, and things are going to get super awkward or even end up humiliating yourself in the heat of a drunken moment. So, sober up and find other ways to engage yourself.

3. Do not jump into another relationship:

While it’s the easiest thing to do, jumping into a rebound relationship is not the best way to go about it. There’s a higher chance that you will end up losing your new partner as you’re in a currently fragile and vulnerable state, and you’re unsure about your feelings - whether you want to make your ex jealous or are in the right space to build a new relationship. So take time before committing for another relationship.

4. Avoid your favourite places:

For a while, do not visit the places you used to visit as a couple. The cafes, tourist spots, restaurants you visited can make you feel lonely. So avoid visiting these places for a while. Instead, make new friends, and explore new places.

5. Love yourself:

Don’t beat yourself up post break-up. Instead, think what you want and what your dreams are.  Practice self-love and healing, and this will help you feel better, and make it easier to overcome the pain of separation and loss.
