A scientific research in Queensland reveals that by consuming banana every day, one can keep eye-related disorders at bay. Carotenoids, which are present in bananas, are said to be very good for one’s eyesight.

What are carotenoids?

These carotenoids are pigments of a plant that are mainly responsible for bright red, yellow and orange colours seen in many fruits and vegetables. They play a vital role in plant health as well. Nutritionists are of the opinion that those who eat food rich in carotenoids would get greater health benefits.  Bananas are grown in 107 countries and are reckoned among the world’s food crops and Americans consume more bananas than apples and oranges combined together.

Here are some of the benefits of eating bananas:

1. Bananas are rich in Vitamin A which is vital for healthy eyesight. Some foods are said to have more carotenoids which help us to combat chronic diseases like cancer, diabetes, and heart-related ailments.

2. Bananas are known to have high potassium content and are associated with nearly 20% of decreased risk of cardiac-related problems.

3. Children who ate just one banana a day were found to have 34% less chances of developing asthma or bronchitis.

4. High potassium intake is associated with reduced risk of stroke, protection against loss of muscle mass and facilitates preservation of bone density as well.
