Haj subsidy is unIslamic and scrapping it was a right move

The government withdrew the Haj subsidy, theĀ discount givenĀ toĀ thousands of Muslims who go on Haj pilgrimage each year.Ā In Haj subsidy, the government use to give discounts on Air India flight tickets toĀ HajĀ pilgrims. Apart from the discounted airfare, the Haj pilgrims were also provided assistance to reach specially designed Haj departure airport terminals and assistance in meals, medical care and lodging was also provided.

AIMIM presidentĀ Asaduddin Owaisi hasĀ attacked the BJP for calling Haj subsidy a form of Muslim appeasement and vote bank politics. Owaisi has himself been asking the subsidy to be scrapped and the money used to educate Muslim girls instead. But he also asked if BJP government would stop giving subsidies to Hindu pilgrimages.

However, severalĀ Muslim clerics have come out in support of the Supreme Court ruling, reiterating the fact that the Quran states only those who can afford to go on a Haj should do so. They called the subsidy as un-Islamic since one must go to the Haj only with their own money. Asaduddin Owaisi really has nothing to complain about except maybe the misuse of the funds. And if he still wants the funds to be stopped, he can always approach the Supreme Court.
