The Kochi metro in Kerala has kick-started and is thronged by many commuters as the days pass by. It is the first metro to have employed transgenders to work at the station. While this is an achievement to be proud of, here are a few things you should not do when you see them at the metro stations.

Don't look surprised when you see them working at the metro station.

Do not judge them when they talk.

Do not even look at them with pity, because they have earned their job.

Do not make them feel uncomfortable by looking at them with disgust.

Do not, even for a second, forget that they have dreams and ambitions as well.

Do not glare at them. Instead, treat them like any other passerby.

These attitudes shouldn’t be practised within the metro station only. It can be followed in our day-to-day lives as well. By following these steps, we will take a step towards a more progressive society and make transgender people feel like they’re one of us, because guess what? They are.
