Oscar winner Daniel Day Lewis quits acting after entertaining us for 30 years

Perhaps one of the finest method actors of his generation, Daniel Day-Lewis has announced his retirement from acting. Throughout his career, he was super selective about the kind of roles and characters he chose to portray, often going long periods without doing any films. As an actor, he always employed the ‘method acting’ technique, a technique which requires an actor to be fully immersed into a role and essentially become the character.

Daniel Day-Lewis is known to many as the chameleon of Hollywood. With every movie, he not only took on a new a role, he took on the skin of the character he played. In his career, he proved himself to be one of the most effective actors, delivering brilliant performances in every movie he appeared in. From the menacing William Cutting in Gangs of New York to his sophisticated and presidential portrayal in Lincoln, Daniel Day-Lewis always stayed true to his reputation for being able to play a variety of characters with ease.

He was even known to push the envelope, sometimes enduring great amounts of physical stress as he stayed in character throughout the shoot of a film. At the end of the day, everything he did, it was out of a sheer dedication to his artistic expression and a desire to bring authenticity to the big screen.

Daniel Day-Lewis still has one last movie that’s yet to release. It will be the last time where we will see him on the screen, confused as to how this man can still be so difficult to recognise despite being active for over 30 years.
