Red, white or rosé is clearly passé. The Spanish company has introduced a blue wine for its wine-loving drinkers.

According to a report by the idea of a blue wine is the brainchild of six Spanish entrepreneurs who believed the “wine industry was ‘missing a little revolution,’” and that they "wanted to create something really innovative." The colour blue was picked because it “represents movement, innovation, fluidity, change, and infinity."

Gik is made from red and white grapes which works as the base wine. Its bright blue colour comes from the addition of grape-skin and plant-dye pigments called anthocyanin and indigo respectively. The company claimed the product took two years of in-depth research, with close collaborations with several leading technological institutes within the food industry.

These entrepreneurs have pushed the envelope further by not following any technical wine specifics (we can almost hear the purists choke on their wine). The co-founders believe that “drinking Gïk is not just about drinking blue wine; you are drinking innovation.”

This drink can be currently purchased at www.gik.blue in packs of either 2, 6 or 12 bottles. It will soon hit retail shelves in Netherlands and the UK.

The question, however, remains if this tipple will “blue” you away.
