If you are not well versed with vacation bookings, then a last minute rush to book a Diwali holiday may turn out to be pretty expensive. Hotel rates tend to go up and airfares see a peak during the festive season. But don't lose heart, yet! There are smart ways to still squeeze out a nice vacation within your budget.
Here are a few ways which can make your Diwali vacation happen in a cost-effective way:
Go On A Trip With Your Friends
Travelling with your friends will helpyou save travelling and lodging costs. A group of 4 or 8 or multiples of 4 usually turns out to be most economical. For example, when travelling by car, most cars can either accommodate 4 (if it’s a hatchback or sedan) or 8 people (if it’s an SUV).
So, if a group of three is travelling, a hatchback would normally be hired. Supposedly, the service charges Rs 2000 for the trip, the cost will have to be divided among three people, giving a per head cost of Rs 667 approx. On the other hand, a group of four will cost of Rs 500 per head, saving almost Rs 200 per person.
The same is applicable for lodging as well.
Book Pod Hotels
A new trend has entered the Indian market after much success in Japan, Europe and USA – pod hotels. These are compact spaces with a bed, Wi-Fi, TV and even a personal safe. They are air-conditioned and occupants can avail shared bathrooms. The first of its kind opened in Mumbai. Pod hotels may become a reality soon throughout the country. If you’re looking to save money on short stays, you can try out this option as hotel bookings can be expensive during the festive season.
Travelling by Train
Travelling by train is one of the more economical options. Advance booking can be made as early as 3 months from the date of travel, but if you’re looking to travel in the next 24 hours or so, you can also avail ‘tatkal’ facilities.
On an average, a three-tier AC ticket purchased via tatkal is still cheaper than a flight ticket that is purchased 24 hours before the travel date.
Online travel agency sites (OTAs) as well as discount coupon and deal sites regularly post special limited time coupons and discount offers. These offers and coupon codes that can get you discount with your hotel, flight or bus bookings.
So, don’t worry the next time you decide to take a last-minute vacation. There are enough options to cut costs even if it’s during the Diwali or any other festive occasion.
