- We've all heard of babies being swaddled to soothe them
- A midwife in Japan has come up with the idea of Adult Swaddling
- This enables new mothers to overcome pain post birth
It’s the hottest and latest health trend in Japan. And it’s rather odd.
Otonamaki is a Japanese term for adult wrapping. It is said to be the brainchild of a midwife who believed new mothers could benefit from this post pregnancy, and soothe their aches and pains.
It works like this: Much like babies, adults are covered from head to toe in a white cloth with their knees to their chest, and are rocked gently from side to side by staff over cushions.
According to Huffington Post, “It felt warm and there was this feeling with my body,” said one mother who tried the 20 minute session. “I have never experienced this before so its quite hard to describe properly.”
