Responding to a CAG report, which confirmed irregularities in the construction of buildings during his tenure as ports director, IMG director Jacob Thomas said the previous LDF government is answerable for that, not him.

Speaking to mediapersons in Thiruvananthapuram on Tuesday, Thomas said it is up to the LDF government, under VS Achuthanandan - which appointed him as ports chief, to respond to the report.

"Those who appointed a man, who doesn’t even know to drive a boat, as the ports director must explain and respond to the report. I was totally ignorant of the functioning of the ports department, and hence those who appointed me should take the responsibility," the IPS officer said.

The CAG report upheld the finance department's findings against Thomas and points out serious allegations such as construction of buildings without obtaining the permission from the municipality and and installation of solar panels.

Thomas also stressed that he had acquired several enemies while he served as the Vigilance director, and that's why all these reports against him are surfacing now. Thomas had served as ports director from 2009 to 2014, before being moved to the Vigilance department.
