Congress High Command has made caste equations G Parameshwara has been retained as KPCC President Other responsibilities have been given to leaders of various castes. Cabinet reshuffling on the offing
The Congress High Command is trying to keep its leaders in a flock to face the 2018 elections. The caste equations have been made, and it looks like this time the leaders have made careful calculations and have made plans to woo people from every section of the society.
Starting with continuing Parameshwara as the President of Karnataka Pradesh Congress Committee (KPCC) and the high command has given all the members different tasks to start their work on strengthening party much before the elections.
Legislative Council member SR Patil tried for the KPCC President’s post but did not succeed in convincing the High Command. However, they have been given the responsibility of taking an active part in strengthening the party in North Karnataka.
Satish Jarakiholi has been given the AICC Secretary post. KH Muniyappa has been made a special invitee in the CWC making it clear that even the Scheduled castes are taken into consideration.
Congress is also gearing up to make the Legislative Council Chairperson DH Shankar Murthy to step down. However, as SR Patil will take care of the party in North Karnataka, he cannot be given the post. Now, VS Ugrappa and HM Revanna are in the race for the post.
Cabinet reshuffling?
With Parameshwara’s resignation, the post of Home Minister is vacant. In addition with HY Meti’s resignation, a total of three posts are vacant in the Cabinet. It looks like there will be Cabinet shuffling after June 5. Each vacant place might be filled by Lingayat, Dalit and Backward Caste leaders. Thus, Geetha Mahadev Prasad might be considered for a post in the Lingayat category. Another post might be given to a person belonging to Kuruba community.
