The latest mode of smuggling drugs inside the jail is to hide it in footwear.   Inmates go to court for hearing wearing old footwear and return with new foot wear supplied by friends and relatives, in which drugs are hidden. The old methods of hiding drugs in cricket balls, ragi mudde, biriyani, sweetmeats are all passe now. Police have seized three pairs of footwear, specially designed to hide drugs in them. The incidents came to light during the routine checking. Jail officials found specially designed sandals worn by three undertrials and inquiry revealed the truth

The undertrials at Parappana Agrahara jail wear old footwear when they are taken to the courts and return wearing brand new footwear. The secret behind the new foot wear is drugs hidden in them. Friends and relatives who come to visit the undertrials when they appear at court bring new sandals. The police found no fault in allowing the undertrials to receive new chappals at court. But it was found during a routine check up at the jail that these new, specially designed footwears were used to smuggle drugs into the jail.

Parappana Agrahara jail superintendent Krishnakumar confirmed this to Kannada Prabha and said cases have been booked against 3 undertrials in this regard.
