Nalapad to continue in jail till his father Haris gets ticket for Shanthinagar?

  • Mohammad Nalapad, son of Shanthinagar MLA Haris, remanded to 14  more  days of  judicial custody
  • He surrendered on February 19 post allegations of him assaulting a businessman's son in UB City
  • Is Nalapad's continued jail-stay a legal course or a politically motivated move?
Nalapad to continue in jail till his father Haris gets ticket for Shanthinagar?

Nalapad and his six friends are in Central jail in Parappana Agrahara, Bengaluru, since February 21. Repeated requests for bail have been turned down by sessions courts, and he will have to spend another 14 days in jail.

Meanwhile, on the political front, Nalapad's father is hoping to get the ticket to contest from Shanthi Nagar in the upcoming assembly elections. But the Congress has kept the plot pending in the first list announced on April 16.

Thus there is speculation that Nalapad's stay in jail is being continued as a sympathy factor till Haris gets the ticket.

Earlier too, Haris had asked his son to surrender after the assault on Vidwath on February 17.  Nalapad surrendered to the Cubbon Park Police on February 19 and was sentenced to 14-days judicial custody on February 21. Since then, his bail plea is being rejected, and his stay in jail is being continued.

Will this sympathy factor that MLA father did not protect his son, but chose to hand him over to the hands of the law, win party high command's heart? Even if this is the case and Haris is given a ticket, can he win Shanthinagar again? Even if he is a winnable candidate, will it not have repercussions on other constituencies and Congress' image?
