Karnataka in shock as Dr Rajkumar’s wife Parvathamma passes away

  • Sandalwood producer Parvathamma Rajkumar is no more.
  • Dr Rajkumar’s wife, Parvathamma was admitted to MS Ramaiah Hospital on May 14.
  • Since then she has been on ventilator support.
  • She breathed her last at 4.40 am on May 31.

The entire state which was praying for her recovery is in a shock. Her body is being moved to her elder son Raghavendra Rajkumar house in Sadashivnagar and later it will be brought to Poornaprajna maidan for public viewing.

The funeral will be held at the Sree Kanteerava Studio next to the Rajkumar memorial.

 The condition of Sandalwood producer and wife of matinee idol Dr Rajkumar Parvathamma Rajkumar who was admitted to MS Ramaiah Hospital had turned critical as she developed breathing problems on May 14. She was on ventilator support.

"About 10 pm on Tuesday night, her pulse and BP started falling. She had a cardiac arrest at 4.30 am," Dr Naresh Shetty, President, MS Ramaiah hospital said in an official statement. Her three sons - Shivaraj, Ragavendra and Punith along with other family members were at her bedside, the statement added. The 78-year-old, who was hospitalised on May 14, has been battling renal problems along with difficulty in breathing. The hospital also said that like Dr Rajkumar, she also has donated her eyes. 

All film shootings have been stopped in the state, also schools in the Sadashivnagar area are to remain closed.


Parvathamma Rajkumar

The second child of Appaji Gowda and Lakshmamma from Mysuru district, she was born on 6 December 1939. It is famously said that Singanallur Puttaswamaiah, her future father-in-law, placed a silver coin in her cradle and allegedly vowed to make Parvathamma his daughter-in-law. Parvathamma was married to Rajkumar at the age of 13 on 25 June 1953.

She has received the Phalke Academy award, Kannada Rajyotsava, and a lifetime achievement award from the Government of Karnataka.
