The police jeep on election duty collided with a lorry, killing the DySP and a police officer along with the driver. The primary investigation has revealed that the jeep has hit the lorry.

The police jeep collided with a lorry, killing the DySP and a police officer along with the driver in the jeep. A case in this regard has been booked at the Bagalkot Rural Police Station.

The accident occurred in the midnight near Koodalasangama Cross in Bagalkot, The two police officers and the driver died on the spot.

The primary investigation has revealed that the jeep has hit the lorry and the heavy vehicle is found to be travelling in the left. So, it is speculated that the jeep hit the lorry as the driver lost the balance of the vehicle.

The victims are identified as CID Deputy Superintendent of Police (DySP) P Balegowda (55), CID CPI H K Shivaswamy and driver Venugopal (23). The three were travelling from Bengaluru to Bagalkot on election duty.

Bagalkot SP Vamshikrishna, DySP Girish and others visited the place and inspected the spot. DySP Balegowda is the resident of Kottigepalya in Bengaluru and Shivaswamy is a native of Chamarajanagar. No details are available about the driver.

The bodies have been kept in Bagalkot District Hospital mortuary.
