Hours before transfer, IFS officer hammers Rs 10 crore fine on Mantri Builder

On the last  say at his office, IFS Officer and former CEO of Lake Development Authority, Vidyasagar has given instruction to Karnataka State Pollution Control Board to impose penalty for polluting Subrmanya lake by not less than 10 crore. He said, there were evidence of top builders letting sewage into lake. I had told BWSSB to book the builder under water pollution act and recover lake revival cost from the builder.

Speaking to Newsable, Vidyasagar IFS officer said, there are plenty of complaint regarding Subramanyapura lake, dumping of garbage, sewage and encroachment, I have asked concerned agencies to take action. I also asked the Karnataka State Pollution Control Board to impose penalty on builder for polluting the lake by letting sewage into culverts that connect Subramanyapura lake.

"Not less than 10 crore should be collected from the builder. The BWSSB and BBMP was also asked to file a criminal case against builder under water pollution act," he said.

Jagganath Rao, Deputy Conservator of Forest and Lakes, BBMP also said, the BBMP which is the custodian of lake has given a oral submission on violation and on Saturday a written submission will also be given to KSPCB to issue notices.

When asked about any pressure to  take action against the builders, he said,"  "We have seen the buildings and there was no provision to let the sewage and in the meeting the representatives from the apartments also had agreed to let sewage into drain and hence we will have to take action against them on this ground," he said.

Lakshman, KSPCB Chairperson who was the part of the inspection of Subramanyapura lake said, Vidyasagar, LDA chief asked him to take action against the builder for lake pollution. 

"We will have to give an opportunity to opposition party before taking any action. The water samples will be taken and the effluents will be checked. If the samples indicate presence of pollution, we will nail the builder.
