Those taking part in the mass marriage should have a medical report from a government hospital to make sure that age-wise the couple are eligible for marriage. Currently, this rule is only limited to the couple getting married in the mass marriage ceremony.

The State government has issued a notice in this regard asking the organisers of mass marriages not to accept any application which comes without x-ray copy of the couple. This action has been taken to prevent child marriages.

The government had formed a committee headed by Justice Shivaraj Patil to prevent child marriage in the state. The report of the committee was submitted to the Health Department, and the government has taken the findings into consideration and has issued a notice in this regard.

So far it was compulsory for the couple applying for the mass marriage to submit their birth certificate or a certificate from the doctor. But as many people were found to submit fake certificates, the government has taken action to ask the couple to submit a copy of x-ray.

A bone age study helps doctors estimate the maturity of a child's skeletal system. It's usually done by taking a single X-ray of the left wrist, hand, and fingers. Thus after the couple submits the document to the organisers of mass marriage, it is submitted to the Women and Child Welfare Department for their approval.

So far if the couple did not have birth or age certificate, they could get a certificate from any doctor. But in many cases, the certificates were found to be fake. Thus according to the Child marriages Prevention Act 6(2), the couple needs to take an x-ray at the Radiology department of the Government Hospital and get a certificate from the doctor concerned.
