Allegations of Exploitation in Custody

The accused officer, identified as Rajesh Jadhav, allegedly made an inappropriate demand while the woman was in police custody in connection with a fraud case involving Rs 80 lakh. According to the complaint, he asked the woman to send her daughter to his residence in exchange for money, reportedly offering Rs 10,000.

During her time at the police station, Jadhav allegedly told her, “You are very beautiful; your daughter must be beautiful too. Send her to me and I will give you Rs 10,000.”

He is also said to have made objectionable remarks about the woman and her daughter, which prompted her to report the matter to a female police officer present at the station.

Swift Action by Police Authorities

Following the complaint, authorities acted promptly. Akola Superintendent of Police Archit Chandak ordered the immediate suspension of the officer. Officials stated that such behaviour would not be tolerated and that strict disciplinary action would follow.

Accused Officer Absconding

After the suspension, Rajesh Jadhav reportedly went absconding. Police have launched a manhunt to trace him, with three teams deployed to locate and arrest the accused. Senior Police Inspector Anil Jumle, who is heading the investigation, confirmed that efforts are underway and that the case is being treated with the utmost seriousness.

Past Complaints Resurface

The incident has also brought attention to previous allegations against the officer. Former Maharashtra State Women’s Commission member Dr Asha Mirge revealed that complaints had been raised against Jadhav in the past. These reportedly included issues related to family disputes and alleged misconduct involving women, including an earlier incident concerning a female police officer.

Concerns Over Abuse of Power

Dr Mirge expressed concern over the misuse of authority by individuals in positions of power. She emphasised that strict and timely action is essential to prevent such incidents and ensure accountability within the system. She also acknowledged the prompt response by the Akola police in addressing the complaint.

Investigation Underway

Authorities have assured that a thorough investigation is being conducted and that appropriate action will be taken based on the findings. The case has once again highlighted the need for vigilance and accountability within law enforcement agencies to maintain public trust.
