West Bengal: Man gets 4-year rigorous imprisonment for raping married woman
A court in Murshidabad sentenced a man to four years rigorous imprisonment for raping a woman. The case hearing went for three years before justice was finally served. The accused was also charged a fine of Rs 20,000.
A court in Murshidabad sentenced an accused to four years rigorous imprisonment for raping a woman three years ago. The court convicted the accused and sentenced him to imprisonment along with a fine of Rs 20,000. The victim and her family stated they are happy with the judgement.

On August 2017, a married woman, employee of a private insurance company, rented a house in Fultala area of Raghunathganj in Murshidabad. The woman was staying alone in her house on the day of the incident. At 11pm, a young man named Sajibur appeared at the woman’s house. The man came inside the house and proposed to the married woman. The woman got angry and shouted at him and asked him to leave the house immediately. Sajibur felt insulted and became furious. He raped the female insurance worker. He used a sharp weapon while committing the act.

After the incident, the victim approached police in the hope of justice. An FIR was lodged against Sajibur and he was arrested. The case was filed in the Jangipur First Tack Court in Murshidabad. The case hearing went on for three years before the accused was convicted. The judge pronounced the sentence on September 25.
