West Bengal: 54-year-old woman tortured, gangraped by four youths in village

A 54-year-old woman in the village of Bhatar in East Burdwan was allegedly gangraped by four youths. It is alleged that the four youths tortured the old woman on the instructions of the village panchayat. Not only that, the old woman was also allegedly gang-raped and sexually abused. Bhatar Police have arrested the four accused youths on the basis of a complaint lodged at Bhatar Police Station.

Four youths have been accused of gang-raping a 54-year-old woman in the village of Bhatar in East Burdwan. The old woman's daughter was accused of having an extramarital affair. The village panchayat allegedly ordered the old woman's daughter to leave the village.

It is alleged that the four youths physically tortured the old woman.

According to police sources, the old woman's daughter was accused of having an extramarital affair. The village panchayat warned the old woman to not let her daughter enter the village. Therefore, the mother kept her daughter in another place. But a few days ago, it was reported that the old woman’s daughter had returned home.

It is alleged that four youths named Som Murmu, Mangal Besra Sunil Mandi, and Dinga Murmu tortured the old woman on the instructions of the village panchayat. Not only that, but the old woman was also allegedly gang-raped and sexually abused. The four youths entered the house at midnight on Tuesday (September 15) and tortured her.

According to reports, the old woman’s daughter had to leave the village on the instruction of the village panchayat. But a few days ago, the old woman took permission from the village panchayat elders to bring her daughter back home because she was ill. Even then, the old woman was allegedly harassed by the village youths.

Bhatar Police have arrested the four accused youths on the basis of a complaint lodged at Bhatar Police station. When the accused were taken to Burdwan court, the judge remanded them to two-day police custody. Many people have strongly criticized the tragic incident that took place in the village.
