FollowIn a major embarrassment for the Indian Army, an alleged scuffle between the wives of two officers at a military station in Punjab has landed in the Prime Minister’s Office.
In an event organised by the Army Wives Welfare Association (AWWA) at the Bathinda Military station, the wives of two senior officers got into a cat-fight.
The PMO has sought a report on the incident from the Army headquarters.
A senior army officer said the case had embarrassed the army top brass. Such cases are usually investigated internally, he added.
The sources said the fight broke out between the two women when the wife of the Commanding Officer of the station allegedly abused the spouse of a Lieutenant Colonel. The lady also allegedly slapped the Colonel’s wife.
Several senior officers and their wives were present at the event.
The Lt Colonel has sent a complaint to the PMO, the Punjab police and the National Human Rights Commission.Â
The official complaint also stated that the victim is likely to be harassed and curbed from seeking justice. The complaint called the AWWA and its supporting organisations unconstitutional.
AWWA is an organisation that works for the welfare of the spouses, children and dependents of the Army personnel. It aims at the well-being of Army wives including their children and rehabilitation of war widows and differently-abled children.
The Minorities Commission is also examining the case.Â
