Too much porn student approach Supreme Court

Advocate Kamlesh Vaswani filed the petition, and now the apex court is issuing directions periodically. This particular petition led to the Supreme Court's ban on hundreds of porn websites in 2015 which immediately drew criticism and initiated debates. The ban had to be partially lifted because of the criticism.

The class 12 student, Akash Narwala, reportedly stated that school students from fourth, five standards are watching porn on mobile phones and that these kids frequently want to watch it. The minds of the youths are getting corrupted, and that porn has a damaging effect on their minds, he was quoted by Mail Today as saying.

On his affidavit, it has been mentioned that youths are using the internet to learn about relationship and sex and many are frequently stumbling upon porn without intention. Further, it mentions that if not checked porn can lead to complete lack of productivity, marital disputes, higher sex crimes, and such other disasters.  Objectification of women is another side effect of pornography that may lead to loss of personal worth, the affidavit states.

In the month of February this year, a married woman also became a party of this PIL. Her marriage is allegedly suffering due to her husband’s addiction to watching porn.

Earlier, the Supreme Court asked the centre to find ways and also means to block ‘blue films’ available on the internet. It also sought government’s view on whether viewing porn at public places can be made a crime or not. Meanwhile, the government is in favour of banning child porn websites not taking action beyond this may lead to the violation of the right to privacy of citizens. Also, the government is against moral policing.

However, the apex court has directed the government to work out a mechanism with the help of information technology experts and internet service providers to block porn websites.

In fact, online pornography is becoming a menace in India and even politicians have been caught multiple times viewing these videos during important occasions and in public places. According to a 2016 survey by a porn website, India is third highest pornography watching country in the world.
