Kolkata: Samaresh Das, TMC MLA from Egra, died on Monday due to COVID-19. He died at a private hospital in Kolkata. According to reports, he died at 4:15 am. The news of the death of this veteran politician has cast a shadow of mourning in the political world.

He took his last breath at a hospital in Kolkata on Monday morning after being admitted for almost a month. On July 18, Agra MLA Samaresh Das tested COVID-19 positive. He is the fifth Trinamool MLA to be infected with COVID-19. Along with family members, MLA Samaresh Das had undergone a COVID test.

Reports stated that Samaresh Das, MLA and also the chairman of Central Co-Operative Bank, Balageria, had tested positive for coronavirus, while all other family members had tested negative.  He was first taken to Barma Hospital in Panskura. Later, when his health deteriorated, he was shifted to Kolkata.

Trinamool MLA Tamonash Ghosh had also tested COVID positive. He died on June 24. Fire and Emergency Services minister Sujit Basu was infected with COVID-19. The MLA of Bidhannagar recovered after undergoing treatment at a private hospital in Kolkata.

Nirmal Ghosh, MLA of Panihati and chief whip of the Trinamool Assembly, was infected with COVID but recovered from the deadly disease. Kumarganj MLA Toraf Hossain Mandal also tested positive for COVID-19 and is undergoing treatment.
