BJP leader Kushboo Sundar was arrested by police on her way to Chidambaram today to protest against VCK leader Thirumavalavan's alleged remark on Manusmriti.

From inside the police van, Kushboo tweeted, "Arrested.. been taken in police van. we will fight till our last breath for the dignity of women. H'ble PM @narendramodi ji has always spoken about the safety of women and we walk on his path. We will never bow down to the atrocities of few elements out there. BHARAT MATA KI JAI!"

She also targeted the AIADMK government, saying: "When your journey is cut short by force, you know you are on right track. I question AIADMK and TN chief minister, why are we denied our democratic right for a peaceful protest when other parties are given the permission to do the same? Why this partiality?"

The BJP has been protesting against Viduthalai Chiruthaigal Katchi chief Thol Thirumavalavan ever since his video clip from September went viral on social media.

During a webinar organised on Periyar and Indian politics, VCK MP Thol Thirumavalavan said, "What do Sanatana Dharma say about the women? The Hindu dharma and Manu dharma says that god created women as prostitutes."

BJP has demanded his apology for comments related to Manusmriti that 'denigrate' women.

Police filed a case against the VCK chief, which was denounced by the DMK, Congress and other parties that form the Secular Progressive Alliance.
