SC agrees to hear plea for imposition of Governor’s rule in the valley

The Supreme Court on Friday agreed to hear a plea seeking imposition of Governor’s rule in the strife-torn Jammu and Kashmir, under a provision of Jammu and Kashmir Constitution.

According to the Indian Express, the plea was filed by the state’s Panthers Party because of the recent clashes between security forces and protestors which erupted after the Indian army killed Burhan Wani, the Hizbul Mujahideen Commander.

The clashes have killed over 40 people in the valley so far. According to officials, curfews remain in force in all ten districts of the valley given the fact that Friday prayer gatherings usually turn into violent protests.

Authorities had eased curfew in Baramulla, Bandipora, Budgam and Ganderbal on Thursday; however, schools remained closed as parents chose not to send their children to school.

Mobile and network connectivity remain suspended across the state.
