Discussions on the continued existence of the dowry system in India have been reignited by a woman radiologist's heartfelt post on social media about the dowry demands she purportedly encountered while looking for a life spouse. In a message shared online, the doctor introduced herself as a radiologist who had completed her MD in Radiodiagnosis. She said she was the eldest daughter in a family with three daughters and was now financially independent, capable of taking care of her family.
Despite her professional accomplishments, she asserted that the dowry demands made by the families of potential grooms had made the process of finding a good marriage extremely taxing. "The situations which I came across during this process is really tough," she said.
Her post claims that because the groom's brother was a doctor, one family requested a dowry of Rs 50 crore, while another required her to provide 10% of her property as "aadapaduchu katnam."

The radiologist said that her parents, who were attempting to arrange her marriage, were under tremendous strain as a result of these requests. "My parents who have three daughters and I am elder one are really struggling a lot to get me married with this type of people," she said, expressing gratitude that her parents had not forced her into such relationships in spite of the social pressure around marriage. "But still societal pressure is really hard for us."
