Prime Minister Modi called for national unity after Operation Sindoor, India’s retaliatory strike on terror camps in Pakistan and PoJK. Opposition leaders praised the armed forces for the precision strikes following the Pahalgam terror attack.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi has urged all political parties to present a united front following Operation Sindoor, India’s precise and coordinated military response to the Pahalgam terror attack. At an all-party meeting held on Thursday, the Prime Minister stressed that “every Indian needs to stand united” during this defining moment, according to government sources.
The high-level briefing, chaired by Defence Minister Rajnath Singh, brought together key Cabinet ministers, including External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar, Home Minister Amit Shah, Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman, and BJP president JP Nadda. The Centre explained the objectives and outcomes of Operation Sindoor, underlining that it was a “measured, intelligence-led” action designed to neutralise terror infrastructure.
The meeting witnessed participation from a broad spectrum of Opposition leaders, including Congress president Mallikarjun Kharge and MP Rahul Gandhi, TMC’s Sudip Bandyopadhyay, DMK’s TR Baalu, SP’s Ram Gopal Yadav, AAP’s Sanjay Singh, Shiv Sena (UBT)’s Sanjay Raut, NCP (SP)’s Supriya Sule, AIMIM’s Asaduddin Owaisi, and BJD’s Sasmit Patra.
Sources said Prime Minister Modi had described the cross-border strikes as a “perfect operation” in a separate Cabinet meeting held a day earlier. He reportedly told ministers that the precision of the mission and its success were “a proud moment for all of us”.
Unlike after the Balakot airstrikes in 2019, this time, even traditionally critical opposition leaders commended the armed forces. They lauded the coordination and clarity of the mission, which targeted nine high-value terror camps belonging to Jaish-e-Mohammad (JeM) and Lashkar-e-Taiba (LeT) — four in Pakistan (including Bahawalpur, Muridke, and Sialkot) and five in Pakistan-occupied Jammu & Kashmir.
Operation Sindoor was launched in direct response to the brutal Pahalgam terror attack, in which 26 people, including 25 Indian nationals and one Nepali citizen, were killed. The attack was traced back to terror outfits operating from Pakistani soil. Indian security officials confirmed that the military action involved precision strikes executed jointly by the Indian Army and Air Force, with round-the-clock coordination overseen directly by the Prime Minister.
Government sources also conveyed that the armed forces remain in a heightened state of preparedness in case of any further escalation.
