PM Modi's 'Mann Ki Baat' generates revenues in crores, earns more followers on social media

Prime Minister Narendra Modi's 'Mann Ki Baat' program on All India Radio has generated revenue of over Rs 25 crores from the time it was launched in 2014. This was informed at the upper house by Information & Broadcasting Minister Anurag Thakur.

If you think PM Modi's 'Mann Ki Baat' program as just a talk show with only pep talks, then you are wrong as it has also generated a revenue of Rs 30.8 crore from the program since the time of its inception in 2014-2015.

Information and Broadcasting Minister Anurag Thakur while informing the same at Upper House yesterday, stated that the show pocketed Rs 10.64 crore in 2017-18.

Initially, in 2014-15 the income from the show was Rs 1.16 crore. And after the year in 2015-16, Rs 2.81 crore was generated.

The earnings increased further to Rs 5.14 crore in 2016-17.

However, the revenue declined to Rs 2.56 crore in 2019-20 and reported further down to Rs 1.02 crore in pandemic period 2020-2021.

Not just revenue, followers and viewers also increase:

The radio program that is not just aired but also telecasted on 34 DD channels and approximately 91 private satellite TV channels countrywide has earned a total viewership of 14.56 crore approximately .

The Minister also informed the House that Prasar Bharati will re-broadcast 'Mann Ki Baat' in 51 languages across India.

There is a separate social media handle of the program for further promotion which will keep track of the latest developments and issues raised in the show.

This apart, to keep the audience more engaged and motivate them towards his talk show, an exclusive YouTube channel has been created to check on missed episodes aired in different languages and dialects.

The objective to take the PM's message and to reach the masses through radio, the Minister informed that the department is using social media platforms. He informed that Mann Ki Baat has 100,723 followers on Twitter and has over 28,000 for marketing the show.

Every Sunday, 11 am 'Mann Ki Baat' program with the title Post Box No. 111 focuses on real issues and a wide range of topics and PM's vision for the country.

Now that India is taking part in the Olympic Games, the 2nd and 3rd Sunday on the radio program will focus on the country's participation at the Tokyo Olympics and the episode will be titled 'Cheer for India'.

So far 78 episodes in various languages have been aired on All India Radio and Doordarshan Network and various dedicated social media platforms.

As of now, Prasar Bharati has been broadcasting Mann Ki Baat in 23 different languages and also in 29 dialects on its All India Radio Network. Besides, the visualized version of the episodes are telecasted on different channels under Door Darshan's ambit.

Interestingly, this task is done using the existing in-house resources only and witnessed an estimated reach of 6 crore to 14.56 crore between 2018 to 2020 as per Broadcast Audience Research Council.
