- Hopes pinned on SC for Nirbhaya case verdict
- The four rapists had appealed to the SC challenging the death sentence verdict by the Delhi High Court
The Supreme Court of justice has all eyes pinned on it, for a verdict that will decide whether women in India can hope for justice or not. It has been 5 years since Nirbhaya shook our conscience, 5 years since a young throbbing life left for the heavenly abode untimely, that too in a not-so-heavenly manner. Jyoti's urge to live and her battle for a second leash of life may have failed, but her ashes gave rise to Nirbhaya, the woman who triggered debates on women's safety and punishment for rapists.
Today, we live another day while her soul awaits the results of another battle, which she cannot afford to lose, neither can we.
3:01 pm: The court room thundered with applause as SC announced its verdict.

The fate of the four death row convicts from December 16, 2012 now lies in Supreme Court's hands. It will be delivering its verdict on their appeals challenging the Delhi High Court judgement.
The bench will comprise justices Dipak Misra, R Banumathi and Ashok Bhushan. On March 27, the SC had reserved its verdict on the appeals of the four rapists- Mukesh, Vinay Sharma, Pawan and Akshay Kumar Singh- against the death sentence that was awarded to them by the Delhi High Court on March 13, 2014.
