Legendary boxer Muhammad Ali died on Friday at a hospital in Phoenix where he was being treated for a respiratory disorder. A family spokesperson confirmed his death to NBC, adding that a funeral service is being planned at his hometown in Louisville, Kentucky.

A statement issued by his daughter, business manager said "Laila Ali truly appreciates the outpouring of love for her family, as she spends quality time with her dad."Laila Ali, herself a former world champion, posted a picture of her father and daughter on Facebook early this morning.
Born as Cassius Clay in January 1942, he changed his name to Muhammad Ali in 1963 after he found guidance from the Nation of Islam, an American Muslim sect that advocated racial separation.
