Mathura violence: Supreme Court to hear plea CBI probe tomorrow

The Apex Court today agreed to hear a petition seeking CBI probe on the Mathura violence.

The Supreme Court will hear a PIL appeal filed on the Mathura cult violence over eviction tomorrow.

Violence in Mathura broke out on June 2 when police personnel were trying to evict a cult group from the Jawahar Bagh in Mathura. Clashes broke out between the encroachers and the personnel resulting in the killing of 29 people, including two police officials.

The case would be heard by a vacation bench of justices P C Ghose and Amitava Roy. The PIL was filed by an advocate Ashwini Upadhyay. Kamini Jaiswal, the advocate who appeared on behalf of Upadhyay, said a CBI enquiry is necessary.

The petitioner is of the opinion that the violence was of serious nature and investigation has not been carried out in a rightful manner.

The police personnel were trying to evict members of Azad Bharat Vidhik Vaicharik Kranti Satyagrahi, on the orders of the Allahabad High Court.
