Massive fire broke out at Durga puja pandal in Kolkata

A massive fire broke out at the popular FD Block Durga Puja pandal in Salt Lake area of Kolkata around 6.20 am on Wednesday (October 28). However, nobody was injured, but the pandal was totally gutted. The blaze was brought under control by four fire tenders.

A massive fire broke out at the popular FD Block Durga Puja pandal in Salt Lake area of Kolkata around 6.20 am on Wednesday (October 28).

The entire Durga idol, along with the pandal decorations has been ravaged in flames before the puja committee could conduct idol immersion.

The blaze was brought under control by four fire tenders. West Bengal minister for fire and emergency services Sujit Bose visited the spot.

Sujit Bose said, “The cause of the fire is yet to be ascertained. Fire tenders reached the spot within 15 minutes. But the pandal was damaged before the fire brigade personnel could reach the spot.”

However, no causalities have been reported yet.

Local residents said closed-circuit TV (CCTV) cameras were dismantled at night on Tuesday (October 270, as the idols were to be immersed later on Wednesday (October 28).

Later in the day, a forensic team will visit the spot to ascertain the cause of fire.
