Lok Sabha Election Results 2024: PM Modi wins big with 612970 votes from Varanasi
Rai, the Congress chief in Uttar Pradesh, previously contested against Modi in the 2019 elections. In 2014, Narendra Modi won the Varanasi seat by defeating AAP supremo Arvind Kejriwal with a margin of over 4 lakh votes.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Tuesday (June 4) secured the Varanasi Lok Sabha seat for the third consecutive time as vote counting came to a conclusion . PM Modi, who has represented Varanasi since 2014, faced Ajay Rai from the opposition INDIA alliance this election.
Rai, the Congress chief in Uttar Pradesh, previously contested against Modi in the 2019 elections. In 2014, Narendra Modi won the Varanasi seat by defeating AAP supremo Arvind Kejriwal with a margin of over 4 lakh votes.
In 2019, he secured victory against Samajwadi Party's Shalini Yadav with an even larger margin of 4,79,505 votes and a staggering 63 percent vote share.
This year, however, Modi's victory margin in Varanasi was 1,52,513 votes, significantly lower than his previous margins in 2019 and 2014. Despite the decreased margin, Modi's win marks a continued stronghold for the BJP in Varanasi.
