Leaked report highlights Robert Vadra Sonia Gandhis role in 50 crore land scam Republic TV

Robert Vadra allegedly used the Gandhi family name to receive financial favours and approvals during the UPA-II regime, a Republic TV exclusive report claimed. The allegations are based on the 124-page long 'Dhingra Report', that Republic TV has accessed. The Dhingra commission probed alleged irregularities in grants of land licences to a firm owned by Robert Vadra.

The latest expose is yet another addition to the long-standing controversy around Robert Vadra and his Skylight Hospitality. Earlier media reports claimed that the probe had indicted Vadra, son-in-law of Congress chief Sonia Gandhi and husband of Priyanka Gandhi, for making an unlawful profit of Rs 50.5 crore from a land deal in Haryana in 2008 without spending a single paisa.

According to the report in Republic TV, the report highlights glaring inconsistencies in the granting of permission. As the report stated, the Commission noted that Robert Vadra had little no funds and also no experience in development. However, the biggest clincher, according to the channel, is the fact that report notes Vadra was considered fit for the grant as he was related to 'Shri Sonia Gandhi'.

This is perhaps the first time Congress president Sonia Gandhi has been this directly tied to the controversy surrounding Robert Vadra.

The SN Dhingra panel was set up in May 2015 by the BJP government in Haryana led by Manohar Lal Khattar to look into the grant of licences for the change in land use in four villages of Gurgaon, including the licence granted to Skylight Hospitality - owned by Vadra.

The Commission had submitted its 182-page report to chief minister Manohar Lal Khattar on August 31, 2016. The lawyer of Robert Vadra and Skylight Hospitality has reportedly said they had committed no wrong and that no laws were violated.

Vadra's wife, Priyanka Gandhi, had released a statement, saying her finances had nothing to do with those of her husband's or his company Skylight Hospitality, which had made controversial land deals with realty major DLF.

The statement from Priyanka's office came after a query was made to Vadra asking whether a portion of the money he had received from the DLF was used by his wife to buy properties in Faridabad in Haryana.

The contents of the Commission's report are yet to be made public by the state government which had given an undertaking in the Punjab and Haryana High Court not to release the report until directed by the court.
