Kerala gold smuggling case: UAE attache has major role, says accused Sandeep Nair
Kerala gold smuggling case accused Sandeep Nair asked customs officials why attaché was not arrested, as he has a major link in the case
Kochi: Sandeep Nair, an accused in the Kerala gold smuggling case, has told customs officials that UAE attaché has major links to the case, according to reports. Presently Sandeep and another accused Swapna Suresh are in customs custody.
The two were interrogated by the customs team at the Kochi’s National Investigation Agency (NIA) office last night and this morning (July 24). Sandeep was questioned last night and Swapna this morning.
A report said that Sandeep clarified to customs what steps were taken and what documents were provided in connection with the gold smuggling case.
Earlier, Sandeep had asked why attaché was not arrested even when he was arrested and produced in court. Many things happened with attaché’s permission. Without that permission, many activities wouldn't have taken place, Sandeep claimed.
The Kerala gold smuggling scam came to light after the Customs department seized 30 kg gold from an air cargo consignment from the UAE to the country’s consulate in Thiruvananthapuram on July 5.
