This was Suni's second round of litigation before the Supreme Court. Renowned Mumbai lawyer Sana Raees Khan appeared in the apex court on behalf of Pulsur Suni. He has spent more than six years in jail awaiting trial.

In the notorious case of 2017, a well-known female actor was kidnapped, driven around in a car, photographed, and subjected to sexual assault, allegedly at Malayalam actor Dileep's behest.

The High Court had stated during the most recent hearing that notwithstanding the time spent in custody prior to the conclusion of the trial, the accused cannot be freed given the gravity of his actions and the "wrong message" it would send to society.

The Kerala High Court first denied Suni's request for bail in March 2022. He then appealed to the Supreme Court, which turned down his request for bail in July 2022. However, the top court had said that if the trial is not concluded within a reasonable time, Suni may renew his bail application before the High Court.

He then appealed to the High Court once more, and on March 6 it dismissed his bail request.

Suni accepted the seriousness of the offence in his appeal against it, but he also emphasised that other witnesses still needed to be examined.

The investigation team arrested Dileep in July 2017, and in its charge sheet, it said that there was circumstantial evidence supporting Dileep's alleged plot with the other accused persons. In October 2017, Dileep was granted bail and released. In 2022, new charges were brought against Dileep and five other people amid new media reports indicating that he had tried to intimidate an investigating officer.
