ISIS Orlando Shooter Mateen Soldier of Caliphate

The Islamic State (ISIS) terrorists claiming responsibility for the shooting at the Pulse Night Club said that the New York-born shooter Omar Mateen was "one of the soldiers of the Caliphate in America."

 

"God allowed Omar Mateen, one of the soldiers of the caliphate in America, to carry out an attack entering a crusader gathering in a night club... in Orlando in Florida, killing and wounding more than 100 of them," a bulletin from Al-Bayan radio said.

 

Omar Mateen,29,  who worked security for G4S, went on a killing spree wielding an AR 15 assault rifle and a made in Austria Glock handgun. He opened fire inside a crowded Florida gay nightclub early Sunday before dying in a gunfight with SWAT officers, police said. The attack left at least 50 people dead, and 53 injured making it the worst mass shooting in American history.

 

Law enforcement sources told CBS News the gunman has been identified as Omar Mateen, 29, a U.S. citizen from Port St. Lucie. Mateen was born to Afghan parents.

 

Mateen reportedly called 911 just prior to the attack and pledged allegiance to ISIS. According to CBS News, Mateen identified himself to the 911 operator and also mentioned the Tsarnaev brothers, who were behind the Boston Marathon bombings in 2013.
