In-flight Wi-Fi services are currently not allowed over the Indian airspace. The Department of Telecommunications has moved a proposal in this regard.
While flying over the Indian airspace, passengers do not get to use Wi-Fi services as it is not allowed currently. But that day isn’t far from when the fliers will be able to use Wi-Fi for in-flight entertainment. The Department of Telecommunications has moved a proposal in this regard.

However, in-flight Wi-Fi services will also require amendment of provisions of Indian Telegraph Act 1885 and Indian Telegraph Rules.
Minister of State for Civil Aviation Jayant Sinha stated in Rajya Sabha on Wednesday that the Department of Telecommunications have moved a proposal so that the passengers can get inflight connectivity for voice, data and video services.
Many international airlines provide their customers with in-flight Wi-Fi services but the moment they enter the Indian airspace, they have to switch it off as per regulations.
This might come as good news for all the passengers, international as well as domestic, who will be flying over the Indian airspace. But still it is far from reality unlike the other international flights.
