An individual accused of the double-murder of a mother and son was injured in a police encounter in Delhi's Govindpuri area, officials said. The encounter took place on Wednesday when the accused, identified as Saurabh, allegedly opened fire on a police team during an operation by the South-East District's Anti-Narcotics Team.

Accused Fired on Police

The accused fired four shots, but the police responded in self-defence by shooting him in the leg and arrested the accused following the encounter. The accused was sitting in the Ghati Park area and consuming smack when the police cordoned off the area to demand his surrender. However, upon spotting the police, the accused allegedly opened fire on the police party; in retaliation, the police shot the criminal in the leg.

He has since been taken to a hospital in an injured condition. A probe is underway, and further details are awaited.

Previous Encounter in Delhi

Earlier, on May 10, an encounter broke out between the Delhi Police Central District team and suspected criminals in the national capital, police said. According to the Delhi Police, two criminals were injured in the encounter. (ANI)
