Coronavirus scare: Karnataka buses spray disinfectants, ask passengers to carry a mask

Telangana reported the first case of coronavirus. The techie reached Hyderabad from Dubai via Bengaluru. Soon after Karnataka transport department took a slew of measures to contain the spread of this deadly virus.

Bengaluru: Coronavirus has claimed over 3000 lives across the world. People have contracted this virus in India too. Telangana reported the first case of coronavirus in its state. The techie reached Hyderabad from Dubai via Bengaluru. Soon after, the Karnataka transport department has taken few measures to ensure that the spread of the disease is contained.

According to Bengaluru Metropolitan Transport Corporation (BMTC) and Karnataka State Road Transport Corporation (KSRTC), the authorities have sent a circular to all the divisions to ensure better sanitation practices are followed.

Hand grills, supporting bars, handlebars and window should all be sprayed with disinfectants after every trip and drivers and conductors have been directed to carry a mask, clean their seat and steering regularly.

The staff has also been advised to keep passengers informed about the safety measures and report to them in case they find any symptoms like headache, mild fever, body pain, etc, while travelling as these people can be subjected to health check-ups.

In BMTC, there are about 6,498 buses under its fleet which carry over 35 lakh passengers daily and KSRTC has about 8,800 buses under its fleet which carry 30 lakh passengers every day.
