Greater Chennai Police Commissioner Shankar Jiwal inaugurated the second edition of ‘En Chennai Young Chennai’, a unique initiative to celebrate Chennai Day. The 50-day programme that started on June 25 will go on for 50 days, commemorating Chennai Day on August 22.

Chennai's attractive looks and creative transformation make it appear younger every year. ‘En Chennai Young Chennai’ is an initiative by Shankar M Shiv - Co-founder (The Idea Factory) and Karthik p srinivasan - Co-founder (Earth and Air), to honour the spirit of Chennaiites, who collaborate without expecting anything in return to improve the city and its living conditions.

It is usual to give speeches, go on 'Chennai walks', and discuss the legacy and history of the city on Chennai Day. While it is important to commemorate Chennai's historical landmarks and its ascent, Chennai is more than only its cultural legacy and historical significance to us. Only those humans that collaborate in friendship for the good of society should build the spirit of the young Chennai. This is the primary goal of 'En Chennai Young Chennai'.

The programs for this year are being designed to strengthen Chennai's human values. 'En Chennai Young Chennai' will also be commemorated in many communities in Chennai. Also, there will be a mammoth event of the Indoor Stadium Marathon. There are also plans for a renowned award ceremony. Business achievers and fresh names in entertainment will also be recognised this year, along with the service category for the same social work honours as last year.

The Chennai Anthem, which expresses the pride of Chennai, was first introduced last year. Additionally, awards were presented in recognition of the energetic actions of Chennai's outstanding youth. People who addressed challenges and demonstrated a sense of unity and commitment in the face of unforeseen circumstances like natural calamities, pandemics, etc., people who improved the living conditions of the people and those who have worked for Chennai over the past ten years, were recognised through these awards.
