B.Tech, MBA degree holders queue up for the post of Safai Karmachari

Early morning in the freezing cold, thousands of unemployed youth found themselves standing in the queue before the Municipality office of Allahabad. 

They applied for the post of Safai Karmachari and arrived at the office of the municipality to attend the practical examination. Ironically, many of the applicants were MBA and B.Tech graduates. 

According to the sources of Allahabad Municipality office, it takes more than 408 days to complete the selection process. The selection process may extend if the government changes which is very likely as legislative assembly elections are scheduled in Uttar Pradesh in early 2017. 

At present, 119 Safai Karmachari posts are vacant Allahabad Municipality. Besides, each city of the district requires 100 Safai Karmacharis. So far the municipality office has processed 1.10 lakh applications. 

The education qualification is not mentioned for this post. However, in the notification, the Municipality has mentioned that the applicant should be able to read and write Hindi. Sources say that the selection process has become complicated since many graduates and post graduates have applied for the post.

 
OP Srivastav, Commissioner of Allahabad Municipality Corporation, has said that the office is interviewing 250 candidates every day. This clearly reflects the unemployment crisis of the state of Uttar Pradesh.
